Coimbatore , March 6

Small textile weavers have evinced interest in China-built rapier looms that are on display at the International Textile Technology and Machinery Expo (ITGME 2006), now in progress here.

The Komarapalayam-based Rapier Links, the dealers for China's TexWorld International which produces the flexible rapier looms, has said that two of the TexWorld's weaving machine models - TW733 and KT566 - showcased at the fair have generated lot of enquiries.

The Komarapalayam-based Rapier Links, dealers forChina's TexWorld International which produces the flexible rapier looms, has got a lot of enquiries for two of the TexWorld's weaving machine models - TW733 and KT566 - showcased in the fair.

These two new machine models, which run at 350 rpms and 450 rpms respectively, can be an alternative choice for those looking at importing second-hand looms from Europe, according to Mr Ravi Shankar, Director of Rapier Links.

He told Business Line that during the last three days of display at the ITGME fair, his firm received 230 bookings for TexWorld rapier looms, including 60 bookings for the KT-566 model.

Rapier Links, which took up the distribution of the TexWorld's looms for the South Indian markets two years ago, has sold 300 looms.

Many of these looms have been booked for the entrepreneurs putting up their weaving units in the Hi-tech Weaving Park coming up in Komarapalayam under the technology upgradation fund scheme route which offers capital subsidy for the new weaving machines, said Mr Shankar.
