Thiruvananthapuram, March 9

Southern Railway's (Electrical Branch) Thiruvananthapuram Division and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Thiruvananthapuram, have jointly developed a Station Name Display System (SNDS) for air-conditioned coaches. Announcing this, a spokesman for Southern Railway said here that the system has been test-piloted in the AC coach of the Vanchinad Express in the Thiruvananthapuram Central-Ernakulam Central section. This will be extended to more trains in a phased manner. The GPS (Global Positioning System)-enabled SNDS maintains a database for the route and stops for the train.
