Outlook Marketing - New Products & Services Texport bullish on southern AC market Our Bureau
Hyderabad , March 10 Texport Electronics Ltd (TEL), which owns the AVI range of air conditioners, is bullish on the southern AC market, the fastest growing regional market in the country. According to TEL Managing Director, Major Raj Sahai, the southern AC market has grown by over 100 per cent in the last four years. He was addressing newspersons here on Friday to unveil the AVI range of air conditioners in the Hyderabad market. The southern market had 24 per cent share of the national market in 2003 that stood at Rs 1,660 crore (9.2 lakh units). While both the north and western markets were slated to dip marginally, the southern market is expected to improve its share to 27 per cent of the national market, which is set to reach a size of Rs 2,950 crore (15.16 lakh units) in 2006. According to Major Sahai, the north market that had a size of Rs 412 crore in 2003 is expected to grow to Rs 686 crore in 2006. During this period, the eastern market is expected to grow to Rs 376 crore from Rs 213 crore, Western market to Rs 660 crore (Rs 386 crore), while the Southern market would improve substantially to Rs 638 crore from Rs 319 crore. Further, Major Sahai said there was a significant shift from window to split air-conditioners in the Southern market. As against the 50:50 ratio of split and window ACs in 2003, it is gradually tilting towards split ACs and the ratio is going to be 70:30 during 2006, he said. The company from the beginning has been focussing strongly on the southern States and laid emphasis on institutional sales, without depriving the retail market.
