National mineral award

Dr Shyam Sunder Rai of the National Geophysical Research Institute has been awarded the national mineral award for 2004. The award was given for his outstanding work in the field of Applied Geophysics.

Dr Rai's work has contributed significantly in deciphering the crust and mantle structure of India. It has also revealed the existence of a thick lithosphere route beneath the Dharwar Craton. He received the award from Union Minister for Mines, Mr Sis Ram Ola, in New Delhi.
