Green Revolution

This is with reference to the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh's call for a second Green Revolution, "Farm extension, key to second green revolution," (Business Line, March 11).

A second Green Revolution should be planned and implemented in such a way that it solves many of the farmer's problems.

These include regular income, nutritious food, unemployment, poverty eradication, sanitation and drinking water.

Other essential components are increased credit facilities, better irrigation and infrastructure, crop insurance, enriching the knowledge of the farmer, and transferring modern technology and research results to farms.

Basically, power to every village is necessary.
