CII to host two-day textile meet

Coimbatore , March 13

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organising the fourth edition of `Comptex', a conference on textile industry on April 4 and 5 at the SITRA Auditorium here.

Organised in association with The South India Mills Association (SIMA), the meet aims to highlight the importance of IT investments in the textile sector.

"There are certain IT solutions that did not exist before. These solutions can be customised, are industry specific and affordable," said Mr Sridhar Varadaraj, Chairman, Comptex 2006 and Co-Chairman, Textile Sub-Committee, CII (Southern Region).

He said that in the modernisation phase, textile entrepreneurs concentrated on enhancing quality and productivity rather than IT investments. "This would be the key as the industry advances both horizontally and vertically. Managing multiple operations would then turn out to be increasingly complex. The larger textile groups have the conventional enterprise resource planning (ERP) and supply chain management (SCM) solution in place. But investment in IT is not entirely about ERP and SCM solution. It includes data capturing systems too," Mr Varadaraj said.

The conference is expected to provide an insight into some of the market driven models that provide the unique positioning strategy to different segments of the industry.

The organisers are expecting over 300 delegates to participate in this two-day event, which will be inaugurated by the Textiles Commissioner, Mr J.N. Singh.
