M&S to stock Gujarat cotton clothes

Our Bureau

New Delhi, March 14

Marks & Spencer would stock a range of socks and T-shirts made from cotton produced by Gujarat farmers in 36 stores across Britain. In return, they guarantee the farmers a fair price, stated Shell Foundation.

The foundation facilitated the deal by helping remove barriers in the supply chain that would have otherwise prevented Marks & Spencer from trading with the farmers. For example, the harvesting process often left the cotton too dirty or contaminated for M&S's high standard. So, the foundation supplied farmers with various measures including better storage facilities, it added.
