Bill to repeal electricity excise Act

New Delhi, March 13

The Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, today introduced a Bill in the Lok Sabha to repeal the Union Duties of Excise (Electricity) Distribution Act, 1980. The move to repeal the Union Duties of Excise (Electricity) Distribution Act 1980 comes in the wake of realisation by the Department of Revenue that that this enactment had no further application and was obsolete. The Commission on Review of Administrative Laws headed by Mr P.C. Jain had in its report submitted in September 1998 recommended the repeal of this enactment.
