`Project Kochi as big brand'

Our Bureau

Kochi , March 15

Steamer agents and other stakeholders should strive to project Kochi port as a major brand in the global maritime sector, Mr N. Ramachandran, Chairman, Cochin Port Trust, said.

Addressing the 27th annual general meeting of the Cochin Steamer Agents Association here,

Mr Ramachandran pointed out that Kochi has to go a long way in the changing world shipping scenario as neighbouring countries such as China have initiated steps well in advance to garner more business. "We need to work together as a top class facility to compete with the neighbouring countries", he said. There is also a need to standardise the best working practices in the port so as to jointly work together with global entities, he added.

There is a lot of misconception about Kochi in the outside world that the port is carrying a baggage of negative images. These negative images of the port could be eliminated with the active participation of the stakeholders of the port, he said.

Kerala's history, he said, is replete with instances of lost opportunities.
