Coimbatore , March 15 The disputes arising from mediclaim and miscellaneous claim settlements are on the rise, observed the Insurance Ombudsman for Chennai office, Mr R.C. Sharma. Admitting that there was increased awareness about this redressal forum, which dealt and resolved insurance claim-related disputes within a specified time-frame, Mr Sharma said that the average monthly flow of cases had almost doubled in the last one year from eight a month to about 16 at present. "We also receive oral complaints. We counsel the complainants accordingly." The Chennai Ombudsman office caters to the needs of insuring public in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. About 200 cases have been heard in the last 10 months of the current fiscal. "Incidentally, not a single tsunami-related claim was brought to this forum," he told Business Line. The Insurance Ombudsman and his team were in the city to hear and resolve nine cases, of which seven pertained to life and the remaining in the non-life category. "It is an informal, non-partisan forum. According to Mr Sharma, 60 per cent of the cases went in favour of the complainant and the rest in favour of the insurance company.
