Amidst reports of labour shortage in Jalgoan, culling operations have commenced in the region on a low-key. Labour would be required for clean up operations that would begin later, said a top Government official. According to Ms Upma Chawdhry, Joint Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry, "The operations have started. A team of high-level officials from the State Government has already reached the infected area and are working on the strategy." She said the problems in Jalgoan were different from Navapur as the former comprises mainly of backyard poultry while latter had many commercial farms. "It is more difficult to handle backyard poultry as the farmers tend to let their birds loose for scavenging," she said.
