Railways SE Railway freight loading up 17 pc in April-Feb Our Bureau
Kolkata , March 16 South Eastern Railway (SER) has reported substantially higher revenue earning freight loading during the first 11 months of April-February in the current fiscal (2005-06). SER loaded, for the said period, 77.44 million tonnes (mt) of revenue-earning freight, which was 11.50 mt more than that for the corresponding period of 2004-05, registering a growth of 17.44 per cent. Riding on the back of such performance, SER has generated originating freight earnings of Rs 3,582.23 crore (for the 11-month period), which was Rs 869.05 crore more than the corresponding period of last year, a growth of 32.03 per cent. According to a SER statement issued here, the major contributor to this performance was the movement of raw materials to steel plants. The railway achieved a loading of 22.47 mt of raw materials to steel plants, which was 3.64 mt more than that in the corresponding period of last financial year. The other components of loading were as follows: 18.07 mt of general merchandise, 17.49 mt of coal, 7.10 mt of finished products from steel plants, 6.04 mt of export ore, 4.31 mt of cement and 1.39 mt of POL.
