Chennai port sets new record

Chennai , March 20

Chennai port has set a new record in handling of iron ore lumps.

On March 13, about 40,300 tonnes of iron ore lumps were loaded on to the vessel Ince Inebolu at Jawahar Dock II by manual operation.

This surpasses the previous record of 38,900 tonnes loaded onto the vessel Sea Venus in August last year.

Iron ore lump exports

The total manifested quantity of 50,800 tonnes of iron ore lumps, which is exported to China, was completed in 41 hours.

Gimpex was the exporter of the cargo, B.L. Transport was the stevedore and Compass Shipping was the agent.

During the current fiscal, the port has, so far, handled 2.18 mt of iron ore lumps and pallets by manual operation at Jawahar Dock, according to a port trust press release.
