Railways States - Other States `Mission 2020: Delhi Metro must cover 400 km' Our Bureau
New Delhi , March 22 Dr E. Sreedharan, Managing Director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, has said that his mission by 2020 was for the Delhi Metro to cover 400 km of Delhi, with a metro station within 500 m of the residence of each citizen. At a conference organised by the CII Delhi State Council, Mr Sreedharan said upgrading Delhi's railway network and cleaning the river Yamuna were his other wishes. The Chief Secretary of Delhi, Mr .S Regunathan, said the Government of India should conduct workshops to make sure the Commonwealth Games 2010 were organised in an orderly manner and turns out to be successful. Mr A.K. Kaul, Chairman of CII Delhi State Council, said the CII would work towards making Delhi a safe place for women. The initiative, in partnership with the Delhi Government and Jagori, an NGO, will also look for other partners. "A short survey conducted by CII Delhi on branding of Delhi revealed that the topmost negative factor people mentioned about Delhi was the lack of safety of women. Hence, the initiative," said Mr Kaul. The CII proposed that this initiative be done under the Corporate Bhagidari Initiative of the Delhi Government and industry.
