Orissa's plight

This refers to the interview with D.K. Mohanty, professor of political science, "Orissa let down by its Intelligentsia" (Business Line, March 22). Mr Mohanty is right in saying that the intelligentsia of Orissa is neglecting the common man and is apathetic to their plight.

The "right to recall the elected representatives at least at the local Government level" will empower people to take to task negligent and corrupt politicians and compel such politicians to take an active and genuine interest in the developmental issues of the State.

S. K. Parida

Dhenkanal, Orissa
