STC up on export plans

State Trading Corporation's market cuppa flowed with activity over its tea exports plans to Russia. The stock on Thursday gained over 10 per cent at Rs 116.80 with a volume of 1.82 lakh shares (2-week average 17,202) on the BSE.

It has already set up a complete packaging unit and a trading office for large tea market. The PSU has also recently acquired iron ore mines in Hospet and the Government wants it to go aggressively for metals mining. Some market players are also placing bets on its plans for manufacture of defence items and also trading.

According to analysts, the company's profit had surged by 50 per cent in the quarter ended December 31, 2005.
