US Tech for `hybrid' sourcing model

Vinson Kurian

Thiruvananthapuram , March 26

The technopark-based US Technology International has set great store by the home-grown hybrid global sourcing and delivery model, a supposedly advanced proxy to Global Delivery Model (GDM) patronised by the country's outsourcing fraternity.

US Technology is a subsidiary of US Technology Resources, a California-based end-to-end IT and BPO services provider to Fortune 500 companies.

GDM is arguably the most successful outsourcing model in the country's IT/BPO sector. A combination of onsite and offshore models, GDM also provides for a network of offshore development centres.

The service provider also uses the resources of partners. This provides the client with a large working team with varied qualities and expertise in different fields.

But the very fact that operations could be based out of a captive or a third party service provider centre goes to make GDM model work well only in certain specific engagement situations, said Mr Sajan Pillai, Chief Operating Officer, US Technology.

COST EFFICIENCY

It may leverage cost efficiencies and the ability to source talent at optimal cost structures, but outsourcers would need to constantly innovate value add-ons and showcase tangible benefits to sustain business advantage.

"We believe that our model has a distinct advantage when it comes to responsive executive commitment and transparency," Mr Pillai told Business Line here.

In the `hybrid' model, the company employs US-based senior managers who directly interact with clients to address issues ranging from delivery management, account management and project management to requirements gathering.

TALENT POOL

"We have on our payroll the senior most executives from the industry who have made their mark in business and held top-level positions in the industry. Our clients benefit from their proven experience as members of delivery teams responsible for client engagements."

The technical resources working at the offshore facility form the second half of the model, providing the technical capability to complete projects.
