New Delhi , March 26

Striking a note of caution in the backdrop of the recent Indo-US nuclear deal, Nobel Laureate Sir Harry Kroto on Sunday advised both countries to gain a better understanding on the subject and utilise it to benefit people.

"Ignorance is the worst thing that we can ever have. I think if politicians and Governments have better understanding of the dangers of nuclear energy they would make much wiser decisions," Sir Harry told reporters here.

Nuclear energy can fulfil electricity requirements and other compulsions of society but governments should restrict its use to developmental purpose only and must know how to manage nuclear waste and save the environment from effects of hazardous radiation, Sir Harry, who is here to address the Knowledge Millennium Summit, said. Sir Harry also talked about the growing significance of nanotechnology which would revolutionise civil engineering, material world and education system and help in learning more about the natural world.
