VAT compensation: Karnataka, Bihar, AP get Rs 902 cr

The Finance Ministry has disbursed an amount of Rs 902 crore to Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Bihar for the shortfall in revenue collections arising from VAT implementation.

Official sources said that a sum of Rs 782 crore has been disbursed to Karnataka, Rs 90 crore to Andhra Pradesh, and Rs 30 crore to Bihar.

Taken together with a sum of about Rs 1,512 crore already disbursed, the Centre has so far incurred an expenditure of about Rs 2,414 crore towards compensation to eight States - Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Sikkim, Tripura, and West Bengal.

Prior to the latest disbursal, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh had received compensation of Rs 251.16 crore and Rs 314.04 crore respectively. So far, 25 States and Union Territories have implemented State-level VAT.
