Tuticorin airport getting ready

Our Correspondent

Madurai , March 27

The Tuticorin airport is getting ready for commercial operations from April 1. Air Deccan, which is to introduce ATR 42-500 model aircraft between Tuticorin and Chennai, has opened a check-in counter at the airport.

The Airports Authority of India has commenced the works, refurbishing the airport building and the runway to make the airport fit for scheduled operations.

The visitors' lounge, with partition for passenger movement, is being given a facelift. A footpath is under construction to enable passengers to move directly to the car parking area.

According to the airport-in-charge, Mr A. Abdul Nazim, the passenger lounge would have an additional 120 seats. While the trolleys have arrived from Madurai, the X-ray machine is expected before the month-end.
