Human Resources Symantec to hike headcount Our Bureau
Pune , March 27 Symantec Corporation has announced that it would more than double its talent pool in India and expand its footprint by looking at setting up other centres in India over the next couple of years. The $5-billion company said it was at the beginning of a significant investment phase in India which will drive its growth in the years to come. Mr John W. Thompson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Symantec, at the formal launch of the company's new research and development centre in Pune, said "Our goal is to become a $10-billion company with 35,000 people working with us by 2010, and very clearly this means that, in the long term, we we will be expanding our presence in the Asian region and the rest of the world".
New products
Mr Thompson, who is on a three-day visit to Symantec's operations in India, said the company's Pune centre was at the core of at least two path-breaking products that would be launched in the market a couple of months. The newest version of Symantec's scan engine, a security product, is being developed by a team of 27 engineers at the Pune R&D centre and will be released in June. At least 40-50 per cent of the development of the company's new Storage and Server Foundation suite, also to be launched in June, has been done by a team of engineers from Pune.
