Ban on deep-sea fishing in EEZ

New Delhi, March 27

The Government has banned fishing by all deep-sea fishing vessels in the Exclusive Economic Zone for a limited period. The ban will remain in operation from April 15 to May 31 (both days inclusive) along the east coast. In the west coast, the ban will be operative from June 10 to August 15, 2006 (both days inclusive), a Government release said. The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries of the Union Ministry of Agriculture has asked all maritime States and Union Territories to impose a uniform ban in the territorial waters under their jurisdiction accordingly, the release said.
