The Hindu Business Line : Iran confident about natural gas project with India

Iran has said that the Indo-Iran relations are on track and promised good news on the natural gas project. The visiting Iranian Vice-President, Mr Rahim Mashaee, expressed confidence about the proposal to supply gas to India and said that good news could be heard soon.

Mr Mashaee, who met the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, on Saturday, told presspersons that the Iranian Oil Minister would soon visit India to finalise details. He said his Government had already given in-principle clearance to the liquefied natural gas proposal and Iranian engineers and technicians were working to set up the infrastructure in this regard. As regards the difference between India and Iran over the pricing of the gas, he said the cost of gas would depend on the international market.

When asked to comment on the Indo-US nuclear deal, Mr Mashaee said New Delhi's relations with any country is the domestic matter of India. "Nuclear technology is the right of all countries, including the great nation of India," he said. However, he added Washington has had "double standards on Iran's nuclear issue. Is it not clear?"

On the possibility of UN action against Iran, the Iranian Vice-President said Tehran was not concerned about it.
