Nehru's address

This is with reference, "Nehru and election," (Business Line, March 27): The author has touched upon the electioneering by Jawaharlal Nehru.I was privileged to listen to one of his election addresses in Coimbatore. Though the crowd was drawn from remote villages, Nehru would not touch on any of the local problems but elaborated on national and global issues. I don't know how much of his talk reached the people, but masses listened to him in pin-drop silence. Nowadays, this way of educating the masses is given the go-by and mudslinging has become the order of the day.

S. S. Rajagopalan
