Hughes' new broadband solutions brand

Our Bureau

New Delhi , March 28

Hughes today unveiled its new broadband services brand HughesNet replacing Direcway.

HughesNet will encompass all broadband solutions and services from Hughes, including the "best of satellite and terrestrial technologies" to its customers in India across enterprise, government, small business, and consumer segments. The change in brand comes after Rupert Murdoch promoted DirecTV sold off its 50 per cent stake in Hughes Network.

"This transition reflects on our focus to expand the range of broadband solutions and services that we offer to our customers in India. HughesNet is a more compelling representation of our company's overall market reach and capability to address a diverse set of business challenges faced by enterprises today," said Mr Pranav Roach, President Hughes India.

In another development, the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) has cleared a proposal to increase the FDI in Hughes Escort Communications Ltd (HECL) to 74 per cent. Hughes Network currently holds about 49 per cent stake in HECL, and is planning to increase its stake to 74 per cent over the next few months.
