Kolkata , March 28

As a promotional offer Singapore Airlines has reduced fares from the city to the Australasian region by as much as 20 per cent.

The announcement was made by Mr Bharat Mahadevan, State Manager - Eastern India, Singapore Airlines, on Tuesday at an informal press conference.

Fares for Australian destinations such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide have been reduced to Rs 32,000 per ticket (excluding taxes) from Rs 33,330.

New holiday destination

The airline is trying to promote Bali as a new holiday destination. Consequently, the fare to Bali has been reduced to Rs 20,000 from Rs 25,000. According to Mr Mahadevan, leisure travellers can enjoy better opportunities in Bali compared to similar other destinations in that region.

Airfares for Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong have been reduced tooThe offer has covered Japan and Korea too. According to Mr Mahadevan, West Bengal has the largest Japanese foreign direct investment. As a result, there is lot of business in the Kolkata-Japan sector.

"Travellers to Korea from this region are also on the rise because Tata Motors and TCS have business interests in that country," he said.

The offer will be open from April 1 to August 31. The airline clarified that those who booked their tickets during this period, even for travel after August 31, would be entitled to the reduced fares.

E-tickets soon

Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines has decided to launch e-ticketing within the next four months. At present, travellers can buy tickets on the Internet but a hard copy has to be collected from the agents' office.

"We are implementing a process whereby everything would be on the electronic form and it would include e-check in too. The services would be available all across India," he said.
