The Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DE&S) of Andhra Pradesh is working on a comprehensive index to gauge the status and growth of construction and real estate sectors.

The Directorate has sent a proposal to the Centre for approval. Once it gets the nod, the Directorate would start collecting data on a variety of issues that goes into the construction industry.

"We will collect data related to basic material, labour, wood and glass periodically. We have already trained our staff in this. We are waiting for the Government nod," Dr Saroja Rama Rao, Director of DE&S, said.

She told reporters that different parameters would be used to collect data from rural and urban areas.
