Our Bureau

Hyderabad, March 29

Aurobindo Pharma Ltd (APL) has announced that it has received final approval of the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for Zidovudine capsules 100 mg.

Zidovudine is in the class of drugs called nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) that help keep the AIDS virus from reproducing. It is intended to use with other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of HIV-1 infection.

In a press release here on Wednesday, the company said the approval would pave way for it to market Zidovudine in the US market and also qualify under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) programme. Further, the company said the approval is in addition to having final approval for Zidovudine tablets and oral solutions.
