"The most powerful force in the world is thought, which shapes our attitude. This attitude in turn is influenced by environment, experience and education.

All three should be taken care of to have a positive attitude," said Mr Kavidasan, General Manager, Human Resources, Roots, Coimbatore, to students of Kongu Engineering College (KEC) here at the launch of the Business Line Club on Monday.

The college now enjoys the distinction of being the first and only college in Erode district to have the club.

The club, which describes itself as the `Campus Interface to the Corporate World,' will provide a platform for the students, faculty and management of the college to interact with the corporate world for an understanding of the latest management trends and practices.

Communication skills

On the importance of communication skills, Mr Kavidasan said, "Eighty per cent of communication is listening, the next 15 per cent is body language and only the remaining is verbal." He added: "Only if you listen, will you be able to think and only if you think will you be able to act."

Mr P. Suresh Kumar, Head of the Department of Management, KEC, and the college Principal, Mr A. M. Natarajan, were present on the occasion.

More than 600 students of KEC and half-a-dozen institutions participated in the event.

As part of the BL Club events, competitions were organised. The management students of six colleges participated in the quiz competition.

Pavai Engineering College, Namakkal, won, and Sona College of Technology, Salem, was the runner-up.

The Deputy Regional Manager of The Hindu, Mr D. Raj Kumar, distributed prizes to the students who participated.
