The people of Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga would get access to broadband facility within two months, the Principal General Manager of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), Mr T.S. Kuppusamy, has said.

BSNL has planned to introduce the broadband facility in taluk level exchanges also and the installation of equipment in rural areas for expanding broadband connections is going on, he said at a function in Karaikudi recently to give away Sanchar Seva awards.

He said BSNL would be expanding the capacity of broadband connections to one lakh from 19,000 connections in the Tamil Nadu Circle in about four months. Nearly 1.5 lakh customers in the circle are using Internet facilities, which when compared to 28 lakh basic telephone connections in the circle is small in number. 'The capacity to provide cell phone connection would be increased to 15 lakhs. BSNL has been planned to install 1,100 new cell phone towers throughout the circle and the process would be completed in about three months, he said.
