Low volume at Coonoor tea sales

P.S. Sundar

Coonoor, March 30

The lowest volume, so far for the year, has been catalogued at the auctions of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) this week. Of the 7.32-lakh kgs catalogued, only 5.3 lakh kgs are fresh teas. The balance pertains to re-cataloguing of the teas withdrawn from earlier auctions for want of bids. This volume is 1.1 lakh kgs lower than the teas offered last week. It is as much as 3.6 lakh kgs lower than the volume sold in the corresponding sale last year. Of the 7.32 lakh kgs, about 5.31 lakh kgs belong to the leaf grades and the remaining 2.01 lakh kgs belong to the dust grades. Again, as much as 6.75 lakh kgs belong to the CTC variety and the remaining 0.57 million kgs, the orthodox variety.
