Hyderabad , March 30

The much-publicised Indiramma programme - an acronym for Integrated Development In Rural Areas and Model Municipal Areas - seeking to achieve integrated development of the State will be launched on Saturday.

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, will launch the programme at West Khandrika village in East Godavari district, a Government release said.

In the first year, 8,026 gram panchayats and 1,371 municipal wards - covering a third of State's population - would be covered. The rest of the State would be covered in the next two years. In all, 2.27 crore people would be covered under the programme.

Under the programme, the Government would lay roads, construct houses and classrooms, and take up other development programmes.

House sites

In the first phase, 6.11 lakh house sites would be allotted and 18.13 lakh houses would be constructed. Besides, 18.11 lakh households would be electrified.

Dr Reddy will talk to officials across the State through videoconference on March 31 to discuss the arrangements ahead of the launch. Surveys have been conducted in the selected habitations to identify projects and beneficiaries.

The findings were placed before the gram sabhas for their opinion. The villagers were allowed to raise objections. After taking all these into consideration, the departments concerned had prepared action plans to complete the tasks.
