Power-driven pump units get more time for certification

Our Bureau

New Delhi , March 30

The Government has given more time to units manufacturing power-driven pumps, designed to handle water, to obtain Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for getting SSI exemption for excise duty purposes.

The Finance Ministry on Thursday said that the Budget proposal of withdrawing SSI exemption on power-driven pumps that did not conform with the standards specified by BIS would be effective from August 1 as against the earlier announced date of April 1. An official release said that it has been represented that some units would not get the benefit of SSI exemption as they may not be able to get the BIS certification by April 1.
