Coonoor tea sales put off to today

P.S. Sundar

Coonoor , March 31

The weekly auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) scheduled for Thursday and Friday have been shifted to Saturday this week.

The decision is said to be more to accommodate the genuine requirements of the buyers for the States that go to the VAT regime from April 1.

Accounting problems

These dealers had been contending that they would like to complete the formalities relating to C Form a week ahead; if the auctions had been held today, the last day of the current fiscal, it would have dragged their accounting procedure.

Also, the buyers have been conveying the impression that with the VAT regime coming into force, they would be able to operate more effectively.

Since a number of buyers from the States where the VAT regime prevails operate at the Coonoor auctions, enlisting their active participation is deemed to be in the overall interest, auctioneers said. With only 7.32 lakh kg catalogued for sale - the lowest for the year so far - auctioneers said they could finish off the sale of both the leaf and dust grades on a single day.
