Rural Development States - Andhra Pradesh `Indiramma scheme to boost economy' Our Bureau
Monitoring Stating that monitoring was a key element in making the programme a success, the Chief Minister said the Centre for Good Governance had developed a Web-based programme to facilitate monitoring.
Hyderabad , March 31 The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said that the Indiramma programme, beginning on April 1, would have a spiralling effect on the State's economy. The Integrated Development In Rural Areas and Model Municipal Areas (Indiramma) will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister on Saturday at West Khandrika village in East Godavari district. Theprogramme, which sought to cover the entire State in three phases, would benefit 2.27 crore people. "We will take up housing, construction of connecting roads, development of village infrastructure. We are going to spend Rs 8,840 crore on these activities," he said. The Government will spend Rs 4,790 crore on housing, Rs 400 crore on house sites, Rs 800 crore on rural roads, Rs 850 crore on supplying water and Rs 198 crore on pensions.
Create new jobs
These activities would, in turn, create new jobs. Besides, it would trigger activity in other sectors. Terming the programme a unique one in the entire country, Dr Reddy said it was an apolitical one and the Government would not keep politics in mind while selecting the beneficiaries. "An elaborate process of enumeration was done. The findings were crosschecked by gram sabhas to finalise the list. If there were any serious deviations, we asked the officials to carry out the enumeration again," he said. Stating that monitoring was a key element in making the programme a success, the Chief Minister said the Centre for Good Governance had developed a Web-based programme to facilitate monitoring. The online monitoring system would be put in place after finalisation of the programme by the concerned departments. Later, launching the agricultural action plan for 2006-07, the Chief Minister said the Ministry of Agriculture would take up Rythu Chaitanya Yatras across the State from April 2 to 20. The aim of the programme was to educate the farmers on the latest technologies that were available in agriculture and allied subjects. It also sought to educate the farmers on efficient water management for sustainable agriculture. Under the programme, mandal level RCY teams would cover the length and breadth of all the mandals. Besides, Rythu Sadassus would be organised for four days from May 3 to disseminate information on current policies, activities and "innovative programmes". These meetings would be organised at all revenue divisional headquarters.
