Outlook Patni sees larger telecom deals Our Bureau
Hyderabad , March 31 Patni Computer Systems, technology solutions provider, sees larger, long-term solutions deals that combine consultancy services coming its way in the telecom sector. The Head of Telecom Business Unit, Patni, Mr Neeraj Gupta, told Business Line that the global telecom sector is witness to a wave of consolidation through mergers and acquisitions, which calls for highly skilled, integrated players to provide services as they consolidate. "After the acquisition of Cymbal in 2004, the company telecom business currently hosts about 1,300 people, of whom 800 are in Hyderabad and Pune centres and the rest spread across various markets. Given the current momentum, we expect the telecom strategic business unit to grow by about 50 per cent this year," Mr Gupta said.
Gains for CPW deal
On a visit to Hyderabad, after the recent multi-million long-term telecom contract for The Carphone Warehouse (CPW), which covers fixed line, wireless and mobile virtual network operator capabilities, Mr Gupta said this deal would expand the company footprint in North America and Europe and open up new opportunities. "Already we are engaged with key clients who include Virgin Mobile and Disney Mobile, as carriers look at service providers who handle end to end telecom solutions, Patni is ideally placed for long term deals, he said.
