Chennai , March 31 A 50-MEMBER Indian delegation will participate in the SAE World Congress 2006, Detroit, according to Mr M.S. Kumar, Senior Vice-President, SAE India. He told presspersons that this is the largest exhibitor list from India till date, with 18 companies being represented, including Kalyani Forge, Lucas-TVS, Rico Auto, Sundaram Industries, Wheels India and ACMA. The Congress will provide an opportunity for Indian automotive companies to network with foreign companies, and subsequently increase exports as well as build technology partnerships, he said. The delegation will advertise the Indian automotive industry as providing Japanese quality at Chinese rates. India's automobile exports are projected to grow by over 30 per cent to touch 8.5 lakh units in 2005-2006 from 6 lakh units in 2004-2005, according to a release. As for auto components, exports are expected to touch $2.6 billion (Rs 11,609 crore) in 2006-2007, recording more than a 100 per cent growth from $1.2 billion (Rs 5,358 crore) in 2004-2005, he said. At the Congress, three Indians will be conferred the SAE International Fellowship, the highest award conferred by the organisation for outstanding contribution to the automotive industry. The three awardees are Dr V. Ganesan, IIT Madras; Dr M.K.G. Babu, IIT Delhi; and Dr V. Sumantran, former Executive Director, Passenger Car Business Unit and Engineering Research Centre, Tata Motors. The four-day event is slated to commence on April 3.
