Rupee gains slightly

Our Bureau

Mumbai, March 31

The rupee slightly gained against the dollar on Friday on the back of inflows into the market. The domestic currency opened at 44.60/62 and slipped to 44.65. It finally closed at 44.61/62, down from 44.69 on Wednesday. Dealers said the foreign institutional investor inflows as well as exporter sales on the last day of the fiscal could have contributed the dollar supply in the market. However, the central bank is rumoured to have intervened to buy dollars which prevented the rupee from appreciating much further, they said. In the forward premia market, the 6-month closed at 2.05 per cent (1.87) and the 12-month at 1.85 per cent (1.74).
