Copper, zinc producers likely to hike prices

Mumbai , March 31

Following rising prices in the London market, major producers of copper and zinc in the country may revise their selling prices upward by around Rs 2,000-4000 a tonne on various products for the next month, trade sources said.

The next revision is expected on Saturday.

Copper producers (HCL, Birla Copper and Sterlite Industries) are likely to increase their prices by around Rs 2,000 on rod and cathode grade and nearly Rs 4,000 per tonne on wire bar products.

Copper prices were up sharply by over $200 per tonne in London and Rs 700-800 a tonne in Mumbai this week.

Hindustan Zinc Ltd and Binani Zinc Ltd, leading zinc producers are also expected to hike their selling prices by Rs 2000 per tonne on special high and high-grade products, sources said.

Hindustan Zinc Ltd has already increased their prices by Rs 5,600 a tonne during the current months.
