Our Bureau

Chennai, March 31

Taking a step towards making Chennai its hub for southern operations, Air Deccan has connected two more destinations, Tuticorin and Rajahmundry, from the city. Its network now covers 55 destinations. Speaking to reporters after the Bhoomi Puja of the new hangar facility at the Chennai airport, Captain G.R. Gopinath, Managing Director, Air Deccan, said the daily Chennai-Tuticorin flight would start tomorrow. This would be followed by the Chennai-Hyderabad-Rajahmundry flight, on April 2. Capt. Gopinath said the 62,000 sq ft hangar would be ready in 8-12 months. Currently, ATR checks and maintenance are carried out at a leased hangar at Hosur while Airbus checks and maintenance are done overseas. Industry sources say that a hangar facility of this size would require an investment of about $5 million.
