Tata Steel hot metal output up

Tata Steel on Saturday reported a 19 per cent increase in hot metal production for fiscal 2006, to 5.177 million tonnes. According to an official statement, production of crude steel was up 15 per cent at 4.729 mt and that of saleable steel, up 10 per cent at 4.52 mt. The company's mines division achieved its best-ever iron ore production and despatch of 10.3 mt and 10.5 mt, respectively. The 1.2-mt cold rolling mill churned out a record volume of 1.495 mt. Supply of flat products to the automobile industry touched 6.8-lakh tonnes, the statement said.
