High altitude CFS

ON ROAD to upgradation.

Nepal is planning to upgrade its Arniko highway and construct container freight stations (CFSs) at high altitudes as part of its scheme to develop highway as a transit route for promotion of trade with India and China. The 114-km highway has to be upgraded to support the movement of heavy vehicles, more so because there are stone quarries causing landslides in the area. A technical team constituted under the high-level steering committee headed by the country's Commerce Minister has also identified locations where the CFSs, complete with Customs, trade facilitation and other facilities, can come up. The size of the proposed CFS should be in accordance with the volume of trade. However, the authorities, it is learnt, are yet to initiate dialogue in this regard with India and China, the two neighbours who will be using the proposed facilities.
