Drug research

This is with reference to, "Drug cos on the path of innovation," (Business Line, April 2).

This is a welcome change. And the call of Ms Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, the Biocon Chief that clinical research and innovation should converge with medical students looking at research and not just the practice, is timely.

The decision of the Health Ministry to make comprehensive revisions of its guidelines on conducting clinical trials may give a boost to the clinical research industry.

At the same time, the Government could also consider bringing required changes in the syllabus of medical education or introducing relevant post-graduate courses.

India could emerge as a world leader in clinical research.
