Taiwan trade team coming to Chennai

A 70-member business delegation from Taiwan will visit Chennai on May 15, according to Mr Yuen-Chuan Chao, President and Chief Executive Officer, Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TETDC).

The delegation would consist of representatives of 62 export companies, including 10 investors.

The delegation members will be from sectors like information and communication technology (ICT), automobile components, textile, food processing and pharmaceutical. In addition, there will be a special group that will look at the aquaculture business, he said.

Mr Chao said that TETDC has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the South Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) to further trade relations between the two regions.

He said that two-way trade between Taiwan and India is worth about US $2.4 billion (Rs 10,713 crore), and has vast potential for growth. Similarly, Taiwan investment in India is about US $110 million (Rs 491.04 crore), as compared to $11 billion (Rs 49,104 crore) in Thailand and $9.5 billion (Rs 42,408 crore) in Malaysia.
