Our Bureau

Chennai , April 3

The mechanical ore handling plant at Mormugao port has created a new record in unloading iron ore. On March 1, the plant unloaded 70,078 tonnes of iron ore on a single day, surpassing the previous best of 67,001 tonnes unloaded on November 1, 2004.

Modification of the plant, including replacement of the old barge unloader with higher capacity, contributed to this achievement, says a Mormugao Port Trust press release.
