Army to counter Google threat

Our Bureau

New Delhi, April 3

The Army is taking steps to counter the intrusive photographs of strategic bases shown on Google Earth mapping programme, Army Chief Gen JJ Singh said today. "We concede that these satellite images do compromise our sensitive and strategic sites," he said calling for a concerted multi-nation effort to regulate such exposure. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of DEFCOM India 2006, a Seminar on "Communications in Tactical Battle Area" organised by the CII and the Corps of Signals, Indian Army, he said the new army doctrine had laid out a strategy to be applied in such cases of satellite monitoring. The contentious site contains aerial photos of the Parliament and the President's residence in New Delhi as well as airfields and other sensitive locations in India. "We have taken steps and measures to deal with such exposures," he said.
