O&M is `agency of the year'

Subdued affair as major agencies stay away

Mumbai , April 3

For the seventh consecutive year O&M has been declared the Agency of the Year at the Ad Club of Bombay's 39th Abby awards. Held at the Mumbai's Royal Western Turf Club, the Abby's this year was a subdued affair compared to the previous years since the big agencies such as Lowe, Leo Burnett, Contract, Mudra, McCann Erikson, Ambience Publicis, Saatchi & Saatchi and RK Swamy BBDO stayed away.

Making a come back as the Creative Advertiser of the Year, JWT bagged four gold awards — two each for Levi's Slim Jeans and Indian Red Cross, while O&M also had two golds, one for HT Matrimonial (Interactive Digital Marketing) and Fevicol (`Guess; Radio Spot). In fact, it was O&M all the way since the agency bagged 144 points with two golds and 32 silvers.

JWT was the number two agency to have bagged four golds and seven silvers with a total count of 60 points. It was followed by Everest Brand Communications, which won two golds and three silvers with a total point tally of 28. Grey Worldwide won six silvers medals followed by Rediffusion DY&R with four silver medals. Others who bagged silver medals included Alok Nanda & Company, Interface Communications, Orchard, rmg David, Euro RSCG, Tribal DDB and Media 2 win.

The Ad Club of Bombay has made changes in its rating system this year, according to which eight points are given for each gold and four for silver. The Abby's this year also added two new categories - Print Craft and Film Craft, which included awards for film editing, voice-overs, photography and illustration.
