Rising prices

DIPPING STOCKS: A worker drying coriander seeds at a warehouse near Kochi. Coriander seed production this season to June is expected to be down 20 per cent over last year's output of around 2.5 lakh tonnes. About 40,000 tonnes of coriander are used every year to prepare mouth fresheners, while nearly 32,000 tonnes are being exported. Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are the major coriander producing States in the country. Coriander prices have gained Rs 500 a quintal since the beginning of this year with the common variety being quoted at Rs 3,100 currently.
