Standards & Benchmarks Industry & Economy - Gold & Silver States - Kerala BIS devises quality tag for Govt depts Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , April 3 Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has developed a quality standard that can be applied to Government departments, said Mr S.P. Sharma, Director-General, BIS. Announcing this at a press conference in the city today, he said the standard IS 15700:2005 has been created at the behest of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Government of India. IS 15700:2005 is a generic quality measurement standard that measures service delivery of public organisations. A decision on the launch date of the standard will have to be taken by the Government, he added. The standard can be applied to all Government departments and public service organisations that have direct interactions with members of the public, Mr Sharma explained. State Government departments can also adopt the standard, he added.
GOLD HALLMARKING
BIS is also focusing on promoting hallmarking of gold, he said. The procedures involved in this process have been simplified over the past few months as part of the endeavour to popularise hallmarking, Mr Sharma pointed out. The organisation is also considering the possibility of outsourcing the operations involved in hallmarking, he added. Meanwhile, BIS is launching a new food safety management system certification scheme IS/ISO 22000:2005. The national launch of this certification scheme will be held in Kochi on Tuesday, Mr Sharma said. IS/ISO 22000:2005 is an international standard intended to ensure food safety along the entire food chain, he added.
