Our Bureau

New Delhi , April 3

Several West African countries are exploring possible areas where the Indian Railways could help in the development of railway infrastructure in the region.

In fact, a high-level delegation of Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas), which is a body representing about 15 countries, would be discussing possibilities for India's participation in the implementation of projects under the regional railway master plan.

Rlys master plan

The railway master plan for West Africa is being developed by Ecowas as part of its overall regional infrastructure development programme.

The delegation, during its meetings starting from Tuesday, would discuss possibilities to involve India through private-public partnership to develop some segments of the rail line under the master plan, said an official.

The delegation would be led by Mrs Alchatour Mindaoudou, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Niger.
